Seija Seidemann: A printed work about papyri with glued in originals – Conservation concepts and realization concerning ethical considerations Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The exhibit Cod.gr.67 is a half-leather strap from the 19th century. It contains a printed textual element
and 36 original papyrus fragments, which were used instead of images. This work presents three possible
and very different restoration concepts. The first and second concepts focus on purely on conservation and
restoration, whereas the third concept introduces prevention by the means of manufacturing facsimiles. All
concept follow the conservation-restoration ethics. This work presents and discusses the conducted
measures. The main challenge in finding the concepts was given by the uniqueness of the object as flexible
paper sheets do not provide a suitable storage for fragile papyri.
