Abstract: | Objects of everyday life are common in modern and contemporary art and play an important role for conservators. In this context, the present thesis deals with mannequins in Installation Art. Three artworks of the contemporary artists Jonathan Meese and Thomas Hirschhorn are presented and the mannequins contained in these installations are examined from a conservation perspective. Following, options for adhesion of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester are investigated, as this plastic forms the basic material for some of the mannequins in the sample installations. Therefore, lap shear strength tests are carried out with selected adhesives and the results of the test series are evaluated along with further properties of the adhesives. The findings of the scientific research are complemented with practical application exercises. Finally, specific adhesives for the restoration of this material are recommended. |
