Abstract: The conceptualization of the auxiliary support system and the protective backing of a thin panel painting is addressed/with the aid of a case study. After the introduction of wood as a support, the development of auxiliary support systems and the case study will be presented. Subsequently, a catalog of requirements for the case study will be compiled, which will be matched with the already existing auxiliary support systems to, in a last step, develop a concept tailored to the case study.
