Abstract: | In the framework of a Mongolian-German research project under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jan Bemmann and Prof. Dr. Cagaan Törbat, a collection of finds from a cervice cave in the Mongolian Altai was brought to Germany. The corpus included the so far oldest Mongolian cloak made out of felt. In this master thesis this cloak and a cap, also made out of felt, and two additional felt-fragments were investigated and analysed in order to classify them into a historical and cultural context. A fibre and binding analysis as well as a reconstruction of the pattern were carried out. Subsequently, the investigated objects were compared to other objects of comparison. Finally, a concept for preventive conservation for a long-term conservation of the objects is proposed. |
