Abstract: | Para-hydroxybenzoic acid alkyl esters (parabens, PHBA alkyl esters) are characterized by their low toxicity and their stability which positively affects their long-term effect. In conservation they are used solved in ethanol. Additionally parabens are slightly water soluble whereby this thesis studies the fungicide effectiveness of the treatment of contaminated defined laboratory paper with parabens solved in water. The microbial analysis studies the possibility of an extended application of parabens solved in water. Contaminated Whatman filter paper #1 was treated with two different concentrations of methylparaben, ethylparaben and propylparaben each in three different processing times. The percentage of inhibition of fungal growth of 11 different fungi was calculated to evaluate the applicability of parabens using water as a solvent. |
