Maria Perwög: The Stubai Sample Chest from the Innsbruck Armory Examination, Technology, Conservation and Restoration back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The diploma thesis focuses on the wooden Stubai Sample Chest from the Innsbruck Armory made in 1824. The four drawers contain 222 miniature tools which partially reflect small metal ware items produced in the Stubai Valley around 1800. Materials and manufacturing techniques are precisely documented. Scientific testing reveals the enhancing of the tools’ metal surfaces. Complex damage problems have arisen as a result of the combination of metals with organic materials. The practical work for this thesis is largely the conservation and restoration of the sample chest and preparing it for future display.
