Overview:

Abstract: The object to be treated, a ceramic tiled stove (around 1760) with its faience glaze and rocaille
decoration in poliment technique is representative for the courtly tile art of the Rococo. After
shedding light on the art and historic cultural background, the diploma thesis is dedicated to
the examination of the materials and techniques used as well as the condition. The resultant
findings are used to develop a conservation and restoration concept aimed at safeguarding
the inventory and to achieve a well-kept and aesthetic overall appearance. In addition to
comprehensive cleaning measures, the object requires numerous bondings, fillings as well as
the integration of missing parts. Through the practical implementation of the elaborated
measures, the magnificent stove is once again in a well-maintained condition close to the
original appearance.
