Natalia Borda Lozano: Art technological study of the "Crucifixion of Christ" by Lorenzo di Credi from the art collection of the Georg-August-University Göttingen back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Lorenzo di Credi´s Crucifixion of Christ still poses questions for art historians and restorers. In
particular, it is unclear whether the work can be considered unfinished.
The discussion of this question as well as insights into the artist´s painting technique and the
determination of the materials used are based on art technological investigations and
comparative analyses with other paintings by the artist.
Missing layers of painting above the incarnate parts as well as missing decorations of nimbus, hair
and robes are clear indications for the unfinished character of the painting.
In addition, the provenance of the painting, its art historical classification, the current state of
preservation, and historical object changes are discussed and analyzed.
