Overview:

Abstract: This diploma thesis deals with the five late Gothic polychromatic sculptures of the Kirchberger retable made by Peter Breuer in 1521.
Examinations of the art technology are conducted for the five sculptures and are related to the carving and the painting techniques with the main focus on structure and composition of the pressbrokat applications. Based on the original condition, a methodology concept in terms of conservation and restoration is developed, emphasizing the conservation of the unimpeded aged condition. The theoretical part provides didactical material of selected issues of the late Gothic age that are explained for visitors to the museum by referring to the retable.
