Abstract: | Lighting in museums is a difficult topic. In order to meet not only the needs of the collection but also the ones of the visitor, museum lighting has to satisfy certain requirements. After a short introduction to the terms of lighting engineering, these requirements are described in this study. Furthermore there is shown if LEDs at current knowledge and experience can conform with them and what advantages and disadvantages this technology has towards conventional illuminants. From the preventive conservation’s view it is of special interest to find out the damage potential of LEDs. In an experiment the damage potential of LEDs is compared to that of conventional illuminants. |
