Abstract: This thesis deals with the medieval mural paintings in the upper floor of the Old Judge-House of the castle Ziesar in State of Brandenburg. Parts of this castle shall be turned into a museum about the Christianisation of the “Mark Brandenburg” until 2005.
Beginning with an introduction to the history of the castle and the upper floor of the Old-Judge-House the paintings will be classified with regards to their art history.
After the documentation and examination of the current condition and the damages of the paintings in the rooms, including an analyses of the painting technology, a sample wall will be performed as a graphical, photographical and written registration.
Based on the results of the analyses, a conservatory concept for all wall paintings will be explored and translated into action on two exemplary parts of the sample wall.
The thesis finishes with a prospect towards the use of the rooms in the Old-Judge-House and the presentation of the mural paintings in the context of the future museum.
