Overview:

Abstract: Against the background of factors influencing the rebuilding after World War II in Vienna and Lower Austria including the political and social development, material possibilities, legal limits, considerations on urban development and demands on the preservation of historic buildings and monuments, an assessment of the rebuilding will be made based on criteria of a conservator-restorer. The specific principles like authenticity, reversibility and scientificality will be checked and the emerging tendencies will be illustrated with the help of concrete examples taken from the practical preservation of historic buildings and monuments.
