Zusammenfassung: This research paper contains a proposal for stabilising conservation of two early period bind- ings from the Dombibliothek in Hildesheim. The books have alum tanned leather on wooden boards. Both books have strong mechanical damage on the spine and joint. The leather is very dry, brittle, and fragile. More detail on the damages and how they came to be will be described in greater detail in this research paper.
A workflow was developed to secure the damages as well as a list of preselected optimal ma- terials with their characteristics and their effect, if any, on the binding materials.
Protective covers and conservation packaging were also developed whose applicability to the measures of conservation are fitting. An oversight of the material costs and the production complexity, as well as a recommendation for use in readings rooms is also included.
