| Zusammenfassung: | The medieval sculpture of Anna Selbdritt is uniquely assembled from stucco and oak wood. It was substantially endangered by water damage to its structural wooden supports. The most various methods were necessary for its conservation. They included a detailed investigation of the technical construction of the piece and its state of preservation, the transfer of the sculpture with the aid of a special auxiliary construction, the setup of an air-conditioned winter workshop within the church, the completion of the damaged wooden base panel, the wood consolidation of several parts of the throne, the removal and treatment of fungus-infested wood, the design and construction of an aerated base, the conservation of corroded metal joints, the cleaning of the surface, the consolidation of paint fragments, a defined retouche and arrangements on location to guarantee an ideal display of the sculpture in the ambulatory. Based on the examination of remaining paint fragments, it is attempted in the theoretical section to reconstruct the paint composition and principles of design in so far as this is possible. |
