Stefan Schiefl: The gildings on stucco and plaster in the rococo-hall of the Schaetzler-Palais in Augsburg, Examinations for technology and damages – Suggestions of conservation and restoration Zurück
Sprache: Original   -   Übersetzung
Zusammenfassung: The banqueting-hall of the Schaetzler-Palais in Augsburg is a last witness of the ending South German rococo. In this splendid masterpiece of skillful 18th century craftmanship the original gildings on stucco and on plaster have been preserved to a large extent and only in some places later regildings or colour retouchings can be found.
The subject of this thesis is the technological structure of the water as well as mordant gildings. Furthermore different types of damages on the gildings were recorded and tested for their possible causes. In some limited areas experimental testing was carried out in order to determine the most promising methods to consolidate the half-detached patches of the gildings and to remove a later glue fixative, which had turned out to be of a too high surface tension.
Samples were restored, missing parts were completed and retouched. Finally, on the basis of these sample areas, strategies were elaborated for the future conservation and restoration of the various gildings in the banqueting-hall.
