| Zusammenfassung: | In the first part of this bachelor thesis, the results of the conservation of a 19th century painting portrait are compiled. In the second part, a conservation concept for the painting and the decorative frame is presented. The main focus is on laying down and consolidating the lift-offs within the painting´s pictorial layer, as this type of damage poses an acute risk to the preservation of original material. A suitable procedure proved to be the application of the bonding agent under the lift-offs as a first step, followed by a softening of the painting layer with primer using a heating spatula. Methyl cellulose "Benecel A4C" 1,5% in demineralised water was chosen as the setting agent, as a cellulose ether is most resistant to the climatic conditions of the castle as an exhibition site. Methylcellulose has the highest resistance to ageing among the celluloseethers, and in the range of higher m/pas values (320-480 m/pas at a concentration of 2% in water) it has a stronger adhesive strength, which is needed here. Very thin and widely protruding lift-offs should not be processed, as the risk of fractures in the painting layer with primer is too high. Here, only the strengthening agent is placed in the gaps to ensure relining and fixation. In the case of the decorative frame, there is also a risk of loss of substance within the poliment and oil gilding. Here, too, the methyl cellulose is to be introduced as a consolidating agent due to the advantages mentioned above. |
