The objective of this diploma work is the analysis as well as the conservation and restauration of the canvas painting Bildnis der „M. M. Köhlerin“, which was cut in its format and has damage caused by water. The painting was made by Johann Georg Schlütter (1694 – 1758), signed with the year 1744 and is part of the collection in the GRASSI Museum für Angewandte Kunst in Leipzig. The main focus of this thesis is on recovering the original format, removal of the glue on the back of the painting and the structuring of the filling with the help of 3-dimensional (3D) printing. A further focus was on the analysis of the art history of the painting, the comparison to another painting made by Schlütter at the Germanischen Nationalmuseum in Nürnberg as well as the compilation of the catalogue raisonné and the biography of Schlütter, since the work and life of the artist are not well studied so far.
