Zusammenfassung: The wooden panel paintings were made by an austrian painter in the late Gothic period, they show four scenes of the life of the Virgin Mary and are now owned by the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. As a result of previous interventions, the tables were severely revised. Their current condition is characterized by visually disturbing overpainting, discolored retouching, protruding fillings, yellowed varnish and heavy layers of dirt. Originally they were used to furnish a winged altar. The Sundayboard show th live of Mary and each of the Weekdayboards show three saints. The works come from the Alpine region of Austria and Germany. The wooden panels have been in Franzenburg Castle in Laxenburg in a knight’s crypt. The concept for the conservation and restoration of the four panels is drawn up and implemented as an example on the “Mary´s Death” which should be transferred to the other three panels in order to achieve a harmonious and coherent overall picture of them all.
