Zusammenfassung: Subject of this thesis is the façade of the “Stubnitz-Lichtspiele” in Sassnitz (Rügen/ Germany). The former cinema and culture house was built in the style of socialist realism between 1955 and 1959 as a part of an architectural ensemble in the city centre. Its long and eventful history of use and the final long term vacancy led to the current degradation of the extensively preserved, high quality building structure. This and the timely envisaged building renovation gave reason to an investigation, documentation and planning of a concept of measures. Within the context of this diploma thesis, the façade is described, evaluated and contextualized on the basis of scientific examination and further literature research. Furthermore, the current state of decay and its influential sectors as well as the necessary restoration and conservation measures are investigated within a representative section of the Kunst am Bau at hand, generally consisting of originally twelve steel reinforced concrete reliefs by sculptor Jo Jastram. The material-specific problematic of reinforcement corrosion required a scientific examination and analysis with sustainable, preserving and conservative corrosion protection principles.
