Zusammenfassung: In collaboration with the industry-oriented research institute Innovent e.V., the Master‘s thesis investigates possibilities for the use of silicon oxide layers for the optimization of transparent and reversible organic protective layers. The weathered-painted surfaces of the military-historical aircraft, which are presented on the runway of the Militärhistorisches Museums Berlin-Gatow, are exposed year-round to the atmospheric load and provide the basis for the formulated problem. As an introduction, the historical coating resins used for military aircraft from 1945 onwards are briefly presented with regard to their use, their chemical properties and their specific aging behavior. Subsequently, a conservation concept for aircraft surfaces with still well-preserved old coatings is formulated and the options for protection through transparent, reversible layers are discussed. The main focus of the work is on the planning, execution and evaluation of a test series to determine the suitability of silicon dioxide layers, which are deposited on selected transparent lacquers and waxes by means of atmospheric pressure plasma (AP-CVD) and flame-pyrolytic deposition technique (C-CVD). By short-term weathering and electrochemical measurements the resilience of the produced layer combinations is evaluated.
