Subject of this this work ist the technological investigation and the conservation and restoration of a polychrom ceramic relief named „The Proclamation“ (Inv.-No. 8558) of the Skulpturensammlung and the Museum für Byzantinische Kunst, Staatliche Museen Berlin, Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Chronologically the object has to be arranged around 1480. Due to a pigmented brown coating the whole surface of the object is kept monochrome. The main focus of this work is therefore set on removing the coating and developing suitable methods for that progress. Conservational measure are also neccessary to protect the polychromy and endangered areas of carrier material from further damages and losses. Operations like wooden supplements, puttyings as well as retouchings should contribute to the aesthetic improvement of the visual appearance, to present the relief with similiar objects in one collection.
