Zusammenfassung: The central focus of this thesis lays on the technological and condition survey of 105 roman archaeological
stone artefacts which are part of the Lapidarium of the State Museum of Carinthia. This takes place within
the context of an already planned reinstallation of the objects in the centre of Klagenfurt. Clarification is
needed if a presentation in the outdoor area is possible and what preventive measures should be proposed
in order to ensure a long-term preservation of the objects.
The second topic concerns the exemplary conservation of the tomb stele of Titus Paetranius Profuturus and
Luteva. The object is confronted with damage patterns and decay problems which are also present on the
other objects of the lapidarium. The tomb stele is made out of a local marble and is an archaeological fund.
The concept for the conservation, developed within this thesis, can be seen as basis for treatments on
further marble objects from the collection.
