Zusammenfassung: Characteristic technological features of the object are the use of paper board as a substrate for the varnishing, the application of the paintings directly on the black varnish and the ornamentation in gold leaf and gold powder which frames the paintings. This thesis focuses on two main aspects: dry and wet cleaning to remove the soot deposit covering the surface after a fire and the examination of the materials used as well as the condition.
The examination results are illustrated in detail with photographs. Manufacturing techniques of paper board and black varnishes around 1900 are discussed in an excursus. The documentation of the condition and the mapping of the deterioration form the basis for the implementation of the treatment proposal in a test area.
