| Zusammenfassung: | For the presentation in the archaeological Exhibition 2010 at the LVR‐State Museum Bonn a bronze jug of a sixth century Merovingian grave was to be conserved. The grave inventory consisted of ten pieces of burial objects. Eight objects, including the jug, were treated during this thesis. Representative of all metal objects found, the conservation and restoration treatments are described for the bronze jug as well as for a ferrous shield boss with a strap handle. The treatments touch on the subjects of corrosion removal, adhesives and reconstruction. The shape of the jug is unknown to date. Therefore, key aspects are the analysis and research on the manufacturing and origin of the object. According to the results of the different metal analysis and observation during the conservation treatment, indirect lost‐wax casting was revealed as the technique used to produce the jug. This thesis ends with some ideas concerning the origin of the jug’s shape. |
