Zusammenfassung: The present thesis deals with the stained glass windows in the entrance area of the villa of Karl
Haenert in Halle/Saale situated in Germany. The windows from the beginning of the 20th century
were manufactured by the Munich based company Franz Xaver Zettler according to the pattern of
the Paumgartner Altar by Albrecht Dürer. The stained glass windows illustrate the figures in form
of St. George and St. Eustachius. Furthermore, the thesis is based on the examination results of
the previous practical term assignment. The bad physical state of the windows required an
examination of the climatic conditions as a possible reason for the damages as well as the
comparison with other stained glass works made by Zettler.
The examination results moreover reflect that the condition of the windows in the entrance area is
less caused by the implementation quality but is mainly effected by the frequent occurrence of
climatic hazards and risks that can be considered as a danger to the material. Regarding the
analysis it can be clearly demonstrated that safety measures and the protection against further
climatic influences are urgently necessary. These can be realised by conservation and restoration
methods as well as the installation of a protective glazing.
