Zusammenfassung: The dress is dated c. 1840 and made of taffeta with large checks. The condition survey includes the reconstruction of alterations in cut using a documentation of the pattern and following processing marks, as well as studies of comparable pieces, pictorial and written sources. The main focus in conservation is the problem of perspiration stains on historical clothing made of silk. Different local aqueous cleaning methods with deionised water, surfactant solutions – partly with chelating agents – in poultices and gels as well as with vacuum suction are tested for removing of degrading perspiration residues. The treatment of surface dirt, the sewing conservation and optical integration of missing areas in the fabric, the replacement of missing buttons and recommendations for storage and exhibition of the dress are further issues.
