Zusammenfassung: The thesis analyses the state of preservation of diazotypes which were produced between 1920 and 1970. The diazotype results from a photochemical process by means of a contact print. The laterally correct copy of the original is developed on specially coated paper through exposure of diazotype compounds to light and the subsequent development of the photosensitive layer of the paper using ammonia. The chemical reaction results in the origin of coloured azo dyes. Archives store diazotypes in form of large-sized copies of architectural drawings. Copies of historical documents are a further part of those records. For a long time, diazotypes, stored in records, have remained unconsidered regarding conservation responsibilities. The thesis compiles literature and patents that consider the manufacturing process, the application of diazotypes as well as the current research within the field of conservation. Additionally, chemical substances are thoroughly analysed. Those are used during the production of diazotypes and remain on the object, due to the chemical process. Statements about the state of preservation, usage and long-term storage are made by means of an acquisition of stock of archival material, which was provided by the Niedersächsischen Landesarchiv. Questions of health issues are discussed due to the usage of ammonia during the manufacturing process. On the basis of these results, possible risks during the use and conservation are evaluated. Finally, a concluding recommendation for storage and usage is given regarding the stock of the Niedersächsischen Landesarchiv.
