Zusammenfassung: Abstract
This master thesis aims to develop a stone surrogate mass for the Radkow Sandstone, a Lower Silesian variety. Since this sandstone is largely quartz bonded, silic aquasol (here: Köstrosol® 3550, CWK) was to be used as a binder besides quartz sands and flours as aggregates. The first stone surrogate mortar produced as a result was not processible in practice, due to its strongly thixotrope behaviour. A modification of this mortar was necessary. Having tried several additives with little success, the silic aquasol was prompted to agglomerate by adding a catalyst, which acts on an alkaline basis, in the aggregate dry mixture. The principle obviously works upon a change of gravity forces between the solid matter surfaces in the silic aquasol dispersion – based on a change of electric charge in the electrolyte solution.
As a result a mass with gypsumlike setting qualities was developed, which can be pro-cessed as application mortar with a short open time. A range of such mortars with a varying composition of the aggregate and selected additives for a modification of their properties has been assessed in an extensive test programme. In evaluating their qual-ity, processing criteria were as much a consideration as physical and technical values like pore space-, water transport- and storage properties, mechanical and elasticity characteristics and selected weathering parameters. Finally, the mortars were tested in practice.
Advantages and disadvantages of the several mortar mixtures, but also peculiarities owing to their individual production process were investigated to provide an informative basis for well-directed adaptations of such mortar systems in the future. This thesis is meant to describe a practical problem in restoration by scientific means.
