Zusammenfassung: Within the framework of cooperation between Schönbrunn and the Conservation Department of the University of Applied Arts Vienna numerous conservation projects and research studies have been conducted together. This diploma thesis integrates the findings of these previous studies and conservation efforts. Apart from research into case history and historic building materials of the fountain, an assessment of present condition and deterioration was carried out. As a result of salt deposits and biological colonization the original paint layer of this object has been preserved only in a few places. The main focus of this study lies therefore in devising a conservation concept that satisfies the requirements of the individual object and simultaneously takes into account its conservation in the overall context of the park. Together with damage prevention measures the well-founded condition analysis offers a solid base for evaluating appropriate treatments which are exemplarily implemented on a representative area.
