Yvonne Schubert: The sandstone Renaissance portal of Castle Demerthin, Investigation on technology of work and painting, partial conservation and development of a concept to deal with the layers of paint back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The disassembled portal has been placed by art historical comparisons. With the reception of findings on stone and layers of paint it was possible to understand changes in construction and to prepare potential reconstructions of colour. Following the recording of damages of stone and layers of paint a catalog of steps has been drawn up. For further presentation of the portal outside an adhesive material to fix the paint fragments on the coat of arms has been found by tests. A reversible layer to seperate old from new layers of paint has been discussed and different formulas have been checked. The results offer a basis for further investigations and modifications.
