Eva Putzgruber: Light and Glass. Two Glass Chandeliers owned by the J. & L. Lobmeyr Company Vienna. Examination – Technology – Conservation back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Chandeliers are a largely unexplored field in art history and in conservation research. This M.A. thesis focuses on two glass chandeliers owned by the J. & L. Lobmeyr Company Vienna, which could for the first time be examined and dated (1675-1720). The different states of preservation lead to varying approaches in selecting methods of treatment. Practical work concentrates both on conservation and reconstruction: cleaning and the repair and filling in of breaks and losses. Missing glass parts have been re-fabricated using historic techniques and then inserted into the original.
