Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: In this paper the historical development of the coating of vehicle and the practical handling with the coating of a „Wanderer W 10/II“ motorvehicle from 1928 is introduced.
In order to get a view on the usual way of restoring of vehicle coating and in which condition those coatings are at present, comparison with other older vehicles had to be drawn. Because a wide manual reworking was found in most of the cases, it was the deliberate aim in the restoration part of the work to find different possibilities of the preservation of lively looking, historical grown coating layers. At the beginning of the restoration simple possibilities of identification of the components of the coating are shawn. Basing on those results a sequence of experiments on consolidation, filling and inpainting of the coating were carried out and analysed. These working methods were taken over from the restoration of painting and sculptures and slightly modified transfered for the changed conditions of sensitive monochrome nitrocellulose coatings.
