Abstract: Restoration and conservation of a colour screen made for the Theory of colour by J. W. von Goethe. Problematic nature of the fabric combination of canvas and paper, cleaning of greasy dirt. The main focus lies on the conservation of the colour screen made for the Theory of colour by J. W. von Goethe. The first step was a technological and scientific investigation. A part of the paper contributes to understanding of fabric dependent phenomena caused by the combination of paper and canvas. Climatic reflexes of the single materials and those of combinations were examined as well as the flexibility and bending strength of adhesives. Concerning the aspect of conservation the cleaning of the greasy dirt layer of the object is discussed as well. In the same course different erasers were examined considering their usability. Based on the results of the research a concept for the conservation was developed and the object restored.
