Marie Menesi: Art-technological investigation, conservation and restoration of an easel painting »Family portrait« from 1816 - Findings on the painting technique of Johann Friedrich Matthäis back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The diploma thesis deals with the art-technological investigation of a
lined canvas painting (1816) by Johann Friedrich Matthäi.
In addition to the implementation of conservative and restorative
measures - the focus lies on the varnish removal - the artist´s painting
technique has to be explored. It becomes clear that the preparation of
the painting, as in underdrawing and preliminary drawing, was of
decisive importance for Matthäi´s way of working.
