Sophia Asimus: Roughcast and pebble dashing – considerations of working technique and restoration back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Roughcast and pebble dashing are old plastering techniques, which have been decorating different facades since the 17th century. Although the terms roughcast and pebble dashing are currently used as synonyms, the substantial difference in the working technique means that these plasters can be defined as independent (but related) types of plaster and their development can be traced.
The working technique, the aging behaviour as well as the damage phenomena of the roughcast and pebble dashing are tried to characterize on the basis of restoration and investigation reports, practical applications and not least by statements from experts. Finally, the most important findings of the entire work are summarized.
