Johanna Achten: Investigation and historical representation of an incrusted table top made of marble back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Subject of the study, a marble table top, encrustated and broken in two, is an object which is still largely unresearched.
About the former place of origin and the historical context nothing is known, except an entry into an inventory list.
The actual owner is the State Exhibition of Hessen, the “Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel”.
Due to a rough assessment and an approximate estimate of their date of origin studies have been carried out as follows: material analyses, the appraisal of the object and a catalogue of damages.
Additionaly the old crafts work and technique of manufactoring such a table top has been studied in detail. The used materials have been reflected.
The investigation and overall view at the object results into a limitation of the used materials to a few, although the material could not be determined in detail.
When examining the single damage phenomena it was stated, that the use of the top plate was not limited for decoration, but for daily use as well.
