Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The topic of this thesis is a roman floor made of clay brick chippings. Even though these burned lime floors are commonly found, they are not as appreciated as for example mural paintings. The floor made of clay brick chippings in the roman villa called "Römervilla am Silberberg" in Ahrweiler and the research of its material technology is presented as a case study. The extent of loss is evaluated, presented and discussed by means of different analysis. The floor shows diverse damages from different time periods that are assessed. Work samples set an example for conservation possibilities of particular common damages. Further the thesis develops strategies to monitor the protective building, the floor and the work samples in the future.
