Ulrike Stegemann: Saint Servatius at Maastricht - the categorization in art history – analysis and documentation and drawing up a conservation plan back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The polychrome stone fragments from Saint Servatius at Maastricht which composed originally in their totality an epitaph belong to the 15th centuries rare objects of which the setting and the performance of sculpture are preserved. Its position within the art’s landscape of the Rhein-Maas area is therefore of national significance. Due to a camp under layers of earth for 400 years the coloured stone fragments of the Servatius church’s navel were exposed to several mechanisms of damage. This work’s aim is – besides the categorization in art history – to do an analysis and a documentation on the stone fragments’ stock and condition which will be the basis for the drawing up of a conservation plan.
