Josephine Reißig: Conservation of Vulcanic Tuff – Examination of hydrophobe coating materials for the handling of damages on hydrophobicly treated buildings of Vulcanic Tuff stone back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The present paper deals with the possibilities and risksof hydrophobic treatments on Rhenish tuff stone. In the case of hydrophobicly treated objects ,back weathering of the stone surface may lead to a partial loss of the water-repellency. To level out such inhomogenities and to obtain an homogeneous water management, different methods of hydrophobic treatment are discussed this work.
As an alternative to classical hydrophobization, coating materials have been investigated by laboratory studies and evaluated on their suitability for use on Rhenish tuff stone. Water transport parameters, duration and optical characeristics are therefore of special interest.
