Kerstin Mürer: the surfactant Surfynol 61 as a solvent - further investigations to purity, volatility and retention Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The practical part of this thesis delt with a portrait of a ldy from the 17th century. It was glued onto its strecher bars. Because of conservation problems the painting had to be taken off. Beside the consolidation and flattening of the tented paint, secondary layers of overpaint, filling and varnish was taken off. This led to discussions about the grown stage of a painting versus originality.
The theoretical part continued with the tests from Mürer 2002 on the surfactant Surfynol 61.
Observations on non-volatile residue of S-61 led to NMR-anlysis to clarify its purity. With FT-IR and NMR an attempt was made to characterize the residue. Beside these product controllig tests, the retention of S-61 in different binding medium like wax, dried oil and egg was tested as a continuation of the tests from 2002.
