Overview:

Abstract: The practical part of this diploma involves the accomplishment and documentation of the conservation
and restoration of the dutch canvas painting „A swan in front of his nest“ by Dusart, painted in 17th century.
The work focussed the relining of the painting, the removal of the lining compound made of glutin glue
of the reverse, tear mending, putting on strip lines, streching of the canvas, levelling and consolidation of lifted paint areas and removal of the blind varnish.
Within the theoretical part, the suitability of polyester and cotton patches with adhesivs for consolidation of a tear area was tested. As adhesives BEVA 371, polyamid melting powder and sturgeon glue were used. The patch – adhesive combinations were examined regarding the stability (tensile stress), their
visibility on the front of the painting and their reversibility after influence of high humidity and
temperature.
