Franziska Kierzek: Vessel of glazed quartz-ceramic from the museum of islamic art Back
Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: Subject of this work is an Islamic vessel of glazed quartz-ceramic with underglaze painting and lustre décor. Due to iridescent corrosion the glaze became dull, that´s why the décor under the glaze is not completely visible. Since the object was already conserved this work critically evaluates the former treatments and based on that methods for a new conservation treatment are developed. One emphasis is the search for a suitable dealing with dull iridescence. Different methods, which increase the visibility of the décor are discussed and tested. Reconstructive methods such as photo-realistic and graphic reconstruction were carried out. This was only possible after a temporary surface consolidation. Due to the results the former assumption of the motive had to be corrected.
