Abstract: The dissertation deals with the renaissance vault paintings of the presentation of St. Ambrosius in the north aisle of the catholic church St. Georg in Vechta. With regard to the planned restauration of the interior the dissertation concentrates on the conservation of the vault paintings in the north aisle. The examination included the interpretation of historical facts, achieved by researchs in archives as well as scientific analysis of painting materials. Environmental measurements completed the investigation of symptoms and processes of alteration and damage. Conservation proposals dealt mainly with the consolidation of plaster with growts made of selected mixtures of dispersed lime. Slaked lime, hydrated lime and prefabricated materials were tested. The quality of the recipes was checked by different scientific methods. The recipe of self dispersed limehydrate was suited best for the object. To verify the results an application test was carried out on the object. In order to give a presentation concept tests for cleaning and consolidation of paint layer were carried out on the object.
The text concludes with suggestions for a preventive conservation and monitoring concept.
