Abstract: On the Conservation of Objects Made of Combined Materials Using the Example of a Mandarine Hat The issue of this paper is the drawing up of a conservation and restauration concept of objects made of combined materials using the example of a summer hat of a Chinese official of the Qing Dynasty, a so-called mandarine hat. A detailled examination and documentation of information about the object, of the different materials, processing and of the condition of the object is presented in preparation of the concept to be developed. The problems resulting thereof and to be worked on include the crucial points of pest infestation, especially the infestation of the object by microorganisms, cleaning, reversal of deformations, securing and stabilizing measures as well as preventative measures. Methods for the treatment of these problems are first discussed in theoretical form, than partly carried out in the form of tests on the object and then presented in the order of the necessity of their realization.
