Abstract: Consolidation of Flaking Paint – Investigation and Presentation of a Conservation Concept for the Linocut „Angel“ (1983) by Jörg Immendorff The linocut “Angel” (dating from 1983) by the german artist Jörg Immendorff, related to the work series “Café Deutschland”, is in poor condition with actively lifting paint and paint losses. After the description of the historical and arthistorical background, this thesis presents the analyses of the materials and technique used and the interactions between them, which lead to an explanation of the mechanisms of the damage. To stabilize the fragile condition of the print and to inhibit the progress of the damage various adhesives are investigated in practical experiments. On the basis of the results one consolidant is chosen, which is able to connect the flaking paint with the underground without changing the optical impression of the art work. Finally a concept for the conservation of the print is developed and some recommendations for the handling, presentation and storage are given.
