Abstract: Forest Ranger by James Rosenquist – A large-size painting on plastic films Forest Ranger by James Rosenquist, which is owned by the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, is a large-size painting on several polyester films. These films are fastened on metal bars to hang from the ceiling. Prior to the examination, the object, created in 1966/67, was stored in the depot of the museum for thirty years. Solutions were found to enable the handling and treatment of such a large object. In addition, the requirements for future storage were established. Parts of this thesis were the examination of all five films and the suggestion of a treatment proposal. Originally the object was designed to be part of an installation composed of several works on polyester films and the visitors were allowed to walk through the paintings. This is no longer feasible due to conservation reasons. Keeping in mind the artist`s initial idea, alternative possibilities of presentation were introduced.
