Overview:

Abstract: This project embarks on the tchnological examination of an early baroque epitaph from the Northern German region, dated 1670. Major aspect is the identification and classification of the applied decorative style. The “Knorpelstil“ is typical for North Germany at that time, whereas the “Sandelung“ and the "Streifenfassung“ is fairly uncommon. The use of the later techniques suggest a professional exchange between artists from the North and the South of Germany. Moreover does an apparent artistic signature lead to one specific artist.
