Abstract: This paper deals with contemporary aims and measures in the field of upholstery conservation. Main target is the preservation and protection of historical evidence of upholstery techniques and material. Basic information about upholstery techniques and material are given. Specific problems including damage and loss of material and historic information are described. Causes of damage and loss sometimes within the structure of upholstered objects will be exposed. Based on this aims and strategies for contemporary ways of resolving problems of damage and loss will be displayed and discussed. A case study carried out by the authoress looks at the condition and damage of an upholstered Armchair. Relying on the obtained information a treatment proposal is given.
