Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The following thesis deals with the drying problems of paste-like linseed-oil paints, with emphasis on disturbances while drying and film building. The thesis will give an overview of the current research results of linseed oil drying. Thereafter the common approaches in scientific literature concerning pure drying will be summarized. Using linseed-oil paint containing the two modern pigments Azopigment PY3 and the Iron-oxide pigment PY42, the impact of the pigments on the oil-drying process will be demonstrated and compared to what is customary in trade oil-paints. With the help of macroscopy, microscopy, uv-stimulation and ir-spectroscopy, possible phenomenas of the surface of oil-paints and the drying speed of oil-paints will be examined. This work will be concluded with ideas for the conservational handling of non dry, paste-like linseed-oil paints on paintings.
