The „Angel with Censer“ from St. Maria/Klausen is a late-Gothic polychrome limestone sculpture in the form of an adolescent angel dressed in a liturgical robe, carrying a censer in his right hand. The original function and location is discussed and an art historical classification made with comparative examples. The main emphasis is the examination of the paint-layers and sequence of the overpainting by studying the original technique and the condition. A conservation concept was developed that focuses mainly on the conservation and preservation of the damaged paint-layers.
